Biography of Roberto Arzú

Roberto Arzú García-Granados

Roberto Arzú García-Granados

Roberto Arzú García-Granados is a Guatemalan businessman and political figure whose career spans more than three decades in business leadership and public affairs. He is known for a development vision and a public stance of direct confrontation against the entrenched structures that have held Guatemala back.

In the 2019 presidential election, Roberto Arzú received roughly 267,000 votes, establishing himself as a national figure capable of connecting with an electorate frustrated by the traditional political class. His candidacy for the 2023 election was blocked — a decision widely understood as a defense of the same corrupt system he had promised to dismantle.

Today, Roberto Arzú continues to advocate — in Guatemala, in Washington and across Latin America — for genuine democracy, secure borders, free markets, and a firm hand against organized crime and transnational gangs. He calls for accountability from what he refers to as Guatemala's “Pact of the Corrupt,” a network of interests that protects those who abuse power.
